De "Gynaika-trein" was een uniek, artistiek project uit 1996 in België, georganiseerd door de vereniging Gynaika, waarbij een speciale trein door het land reisde met kunstenaressen (zoals Marina Abramovi?) en diverse wagons die omgebouwd waren tot mobiele tentoonstellingen en werkplekken, als onderdeel van een groter initiatief rond vrouwen en kunst, in samenwerking met de NMBS. Deze uitgave, die werd uitgegeven n.a.v. deze Gynaika-trein, bestaat uit een combinatie van theoretische teksten, artistieke reflecties en projectdocumentaties. De bijdragen zijn thematisch gegroepeerd rond begrippen als verplaatsing, grensoverschrijding, identiteit en publieke ruimte. Verschillende kunstdisciplines komen aan bod, waaronder beeldende kunst, performance en interventies in de publieke ruimte. Het spoor fungeert als verbindend motief dat zowel historische als actuele betekenissen draagt.
