Seller: The Haunted Bookshop, LLC, Iowa City, IA, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. Illustrated by the Author (illustrator). Remarkably bright and clean; no owners' marks; there is a small wrinkle in the cloth at the spine heel of the hard cover, a tiny chip at the top right front corner of the dust jacket, and ever so gentle fading along the spine of the jacket, otherwise lovely. The jacket is now protected in an archival sleeve. How strange to reflect on what Americans had taught themselves to expect for their children, so soon after the Depression and so early in the second World War; roles for women are far more diverse than just half a century earler, and for men are often military and mechanical; the illustrations display what may well have been unconscious stereotypes and ideals of beauty (the boy doctor wears glasses, while the engineer and grocer do not). 32pp., color illustrations throughout.
