20 3/4 x 16 inches. Condition: Very good condition. The Mid-West Map Company issued this two color map. It is completely printed in blue ink on white paper. Done in 1929, the map has no advertisements which was unusual for the company. The company set the pace for the distribution of free road maps. They were able to do this because of advertisements issued with each map. This particular map has 146 paid advertisers on the back of the map listing. Larger vignette style advertising on the recto is normal for this companies maps but noe are found on this map. Regardless they make Minnesota quite attractive for tourism with a well gravel set of roads as indicated by the legend. Any rural improved roads prior to 1930 were positive for the traveler.

21 x 16 inches. This map is blue ink printed on off-white paper It is a very good example of mapping of the period. By 1930, the depression was taking its initial hold on the economy. The stock market had shaken out the investing weaklings and Idaho was not effected to the extent that the rest of the country was depressing. The map captures the main roads and highlights the lack of pavement in the state. This is a very nice presentation with the guide on the verso. Very good condition but for very minor water stain in lower right quadrant.

21 x 16 inches. This is a well executed map by the Mid-West Map company of Aurora MO which was in operation from 1926 to 1935. There is no date, as usual, but the inclusion of federal highway shields yields a date of post 1926. The code on the front of the map would indicate a publication date of 1934 according to the Western Association of Map Libraries dating guide. The composition of the map is well thought out leaving many spaces for the inclusion of advertising. It was this advertising that allowed for free distribution of the map. Sponsors included ;Twelfth St. Garage, The Motormart Garage, The Chancellor Hotel and Battlefield Crystal Caverns. There is a small inset map of western WV. This is printed in blue ink on white off-white paper giving a very attractive appearance. Very good with two small marginal tear mended with archival mending tape.

Text on the revso consists largely of Authorized Guide and Map Stations of South Dakota, listing garages, service stations, and campgrounds. Undated, but almost certainly before Mount Rushmore was begun in 1927.

It is handsomely laid out with the Missouri River running through it baking up the grid pattern of the state's roads. Hard surfaced roads are plentiful for the state with small population. Long distances between towns and cities were shortened by the presence of good roads where time was the. ruling factor of this new generation of automobilists. there are. many advertisers on the back of the map organizer by town locations. umber of paved roads. The map was made in 1929 and this reflected the mobile society of Pierre and outlying cities as far as the roads would allow. The map was easy to use. Mid-West Map Company was based out of Aurora,MO. Aurora was a mining town with lead and zinc being extracted. This would make it unique for a map company that could use the mining engineers to make maps. The town is located in southwest Missouri. They were able to pump out a considerable quantity of maps for distribution throughout the United States. This map of South Dakota fits the bill for the motorists easy use. It was easy to open and close and fit well into storage. According to the Western Association of Map Libraries, there is a guide to dating the company's maps. It is supplied by Angie Cope, Cartographic Materials Catalog Librarian, American Geographical Society. In that entry it is shown that the company was in business with maps issued from 1926-34. Most roads are paved making rural areas more accessible for urban dwellers. Likewise the farmer can access a central place with ease. Lake Superior is at the top of the map. 21 x 10 1/2 inches. This map is a different enterprise late in the life of the Mid-West Map Company. Sears was the primary advertiser that allowed this map to be produced. Even though the map was printed with a Stockton CA address, the map was of Florida. the graphics are excellent and qiuite pictorial. The map deviated from the normal mono-blue. ink of the map company. By integrating bright yellow into their scheme, they brought a whole new visual dimension to their map. On the cover is a progression of autos from 1886 to 1936. The balance of the Sears Advertising is intense and pleasing to the eye. The commemorative medallion on is a striking display of Sears longevity as a business. Very good condition with separation and several fold junctions from normal use.
