Hardcover. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. Wright, Blanche Fisher; Winter, Milo (illustrator). First Edition Later Printing. Comprehensive collection of about 300 favorite & lesser-known Mother Goose rhymes from the early 20th century, profusely illustrated with delicate line drawings, colorful sketches, & full-page, full-color plates, unattributed, but purportedly by Blanche Fisher Wright. In addition, Milo Winter's art is featured on the front pastedown (with his initials). Orig. published in 1916, this is a contemporaneous printing, if not the first, with an old gift inscription dated 1925 in front matter. With green cloth-covered boards, lettered in gilt (which has completely faded) to spine, this quarto (10" x 12") is in Fair condition: heavily rubbed & worn, with fraying & loss at both ends of spine & all corners. Many of the pages have short tears or missing chips from the lower margin--a couple are missing the entire lower page. Random soiled spots & tanning to all edges. But the rhymes still read just fine & the color images are lovely--perfect for crafts or vintage decorating projects. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same Day Shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day. SORRY: book is too large for expedited domestic or international shipping without preapproval of extra postage (at least double per USPS rates).

Hardcover. Condition: VG-. No Jacket. Winter, Milo (illustrator). First Thus. One of a lovely collection of classic children's books issued in the early-mid-20th century, each illustrated by a famous artist of the day, here, Milo Winter (1888-1956), who provides the front paper pastedown, endpapers, color frontispiece, + 4 full-page color illustrations throughout the 352 pages of text, along with smaller pen-and-ink drawings to open each chapter. Orig. published in this format in 1936 (First, thus), this is a somewhat later (1939) printing. Octavo with black cloth-covered boards, lettered & ruled in bright silver to front & spine. Condition is VG- (minus): quite clean with the occasional spot or smudge, binding strong & straight, hinges secure, but half-title page has become completely detached, with chipping around edges. All other pages are off-white with moderate tanning, heavier to edges; unmarked save for former owner's information in pencil to recto of frontispiece & her bookplate inside front cover (we leave these in honor of those long-ago readers). Corners all show rubbing, down to underlying boards, & head of spine is torn with small chips. No DJ. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same Day Shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.

Stapled wraps. Condition: Fair. This is an odd edition -- contains no publishing information - no publisher, date, author. The cover design and plastic eye design are the same as the 1941 editions described elsewhere so I have assumed the Barrows authorship and Llilja publisher for this copy. Milo Winter is identified on the artwork. A small "700" is printed in the upper corner of the front cover. The covers are separated at the spine. The paper is fragile throughout and has edge tears and separation at spine fold. The illustrations are bright and fun. I don't know where this falls in publishing order but I had guessed it to be earlier than 1941. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 12 pages.
