Paperback. Condition: Good+. Reprint; First Printing. Some reading and cover creases, bump to top of slightly cocked spine and small ding to fore edge, light foxing to endpapers. ; Good reading copy, no names inside. ; B&W Illustrations; 368 pages; In January 1997 former Country Living garden editor Miranda Innes decided to chan…ge her life completely. Tired of London, becalmed in her career, disenchanted with her long-standing partner, she decided she wanted a fresh start. She took her youngest son to Andalucia, discovered a romantic ruin and fell in love with it and made an offer. What she hadn't anticipated was a new man in her life or the struggles of moving abroad, rebuilding a house and creating a garden in the hostile terrain of southern Spain. Light-hearted librarian Charlie Harris is known around his hometown of Athena, Mississippi, for walking his cat, a rescued Maine Coon named Diesel. But he may soon be taken for a walk himself--in handcuffs . Charlie is stressed out. The Southern Academic Libraries Association is holding this year's annual meeting at Athena College. Since Charlie is the interim library director, he must deliver the welcome speech to all the visiting librarians. And as if that weren't bad enough, the keynote address will be delivered by Charlie's old nemesis from library school. It's been thirty years since Charlie has seen Gavin Fong, and he's still an insufferable know-it-all capable of getting under everyone's skin. In his keynote, Gavin puts forth a most unpopular opinion: that degreed librarians will be obsolete in the academic libraries of the future. So, when Gavin drops dead, no one seems too upset . But Charlie, who was seen having a heated argument with Gavin the day before, has jumped to the top of the suspect list. Now Charlie and Diesel must check out every clue to refine their search for the real killer among them before the next book Charlie reads comes from a prison library."-- Provided by publisher ; FINE/FINE. Brochure. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Fascinating and informative three-panel double-sided black and white illustrated brochure. Explains how Mr. Miranda, a Sephardic Jew, abandoned fifteen years of graduate studies to pursue buying, selling, collecting and writing about antique picture postcards, which he was introduce…d to through his studies. He discovered that "Here too, the Jew was the object of calumny. At a time when stereotypical Black, Chinese, Irish, and even female images were rife, anti-Semitic images emerged and refined themselves." He decided to seek out more of these postcards to form a collection which would preserve "our negative heritage". Ultimately, he reproduced this collection in the form of 144 full color slides with accompanying text, as described in this brochure. Contains considerable additional information about Mr. Miranda's background, his collection, and its significance, plus illustrations of seven postcards in the collection. 9" x 11.75" when opened. Undated but handwritten note atop front panel suggests 1986. Two small handwritten annotations, presumably by Miranda, update the number of slides in the collection and his contact details. Sales of this slide collection were presumably lean as we find no online references to it. Please note that we are offering the brochure only.; 8vo.
