NY., 1853. b/w frontis. Morrell was a resourceful sealer who pioneered many South Seas routes. His narrative is of great interest and is one of the earliest first-hand records of many South Sea islands. this work is the source from which Edgar Allen Poe derived his famous Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym. However, he was also known as the biggest liar in the Pacific. - Hill 1186. Judd 130. Jenkins p. 129. Howes M-818. The book was first published in 1832. There was a subsequent edition in 1841, and then this one, all with the same pagination. Worldcat shows this to be the scarcest of the three, with only five libraries holding copies. Small oval blindstamp on title page. Remains of card pocket on back free endpaper. Otherwise a good copy, bound in quarter calf over boards.
