"Nach der Etablierung der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika als eine der vier Besatzungsmä…chte im wiedererstandenen Österreich wurde ab August 1945 von ihrer zuständigen Behörde, nämlich den United States Information Services, abgekürzt USIS, eine deutschsprachige Zeitung mit dem Titel 'Wiener Kurier' herausgegeben. In Aufmachung und Schreibstil angelehnt an amerikanische Vorbilder stellte diese Zeitung für die Bevölkerung etwas ziemlich Neues dar und wurde innerhalb kurzer Zeit zum auflagenstärksten und meinungsbildenden Printmedium der folgenden Jahre. Einen großen Anteil am Erfolg des 'Wienr Kurier' hatten ohne Zweifel die hervorragenden Fotografen, welche für ihn tätig waren; unter der Leitung des Chefreporters Yoichi R. Okamoto waren u.a. bekannte Österreicher, wie etwa Gottfried 'Jeff' Rainer, am Werk. 1977 schenkte die Botschaft der USA die Originalstahlschränke samt Fotoarchiv dem Bildarchiv der Österreichischen Nationalbibliothek.
