Add to basketCloth. Condition: Good. Philip Furley Fyson; Lady Bourne; Mrs Harrison; Mrs Patton; R. Natesan (illustrator). First edition. Philip Furley Fyson describes and illustrates the flora of the South Indian Hills in this very scarce first edition A first edition of this work on the flora of the South Indian Hills by botanist and educator Philip Furley Fyson. Fyson was the first to produce illustrated volumes on these flora, and whilst volume I contains descriptive notes and a discussion of 483 flora species, volume II is solely dedicated to 283 full page illustrations. Ink inscription to recto of front endpaper in volume I. Pencil markings to rear pastedown in volume I. Letter attached to recto of front endpaper in volume II reads 'With much love and all good wishes, and some hope that this one will not be too flamboyant and the stem too stodgy. Kingsley'. Dated Christmas 1915. Letter blind stamped from The Hostel, Wesley College in Madras. The Wesley Higher Secondary School was a government-aided private secondary school for boys in Tamil Nadu, India. In the original green cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Volume I a little rubbed to the boards and the spine, with a long slit at the rear joint. Volume II is more rubbed than I, rubbing to the boards of volume I, with a similar slit at the rear joint causing the cloth to flap at the spine. Both volumes are bumped to the head and the tail of the spine, and a little worn at the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, with some marginalia in pencil and a few scattered spots throughout. Good. book.

The Work-Bag; illustration + 89 pages + 3 page publisher adverts. Condition; Original Hardback Maroon Binding, blind embossed & gilt embossed front & spine, very good, some edge rubbing & dirt. Contents Very good, clean & tight, no inscriptions except old 2/6 price in pencil to inside front cover, also on this page is printed label 'Presented to Master Brady as a reward for Merit, by Mr. Bowling, Milk-Street Academy, Sheffield, June 18th, 1847' , the rare odd minor mark, a couple of corner folds. Well 2 extremely rare titles, only found one copy of each title in 2 different institutions. Unique item Observation is dated 1844 2nd edition, The Work-Bag does not have a title page, and starts with a single sided illustration opposite page one with The Work-Bag to top and ends at page 89 with Graham & Co printers, printed at the base. We are not sure if 2nd illustration is for Observation or Work-Bag, though net seems to suggest there were 2 plates in Observation & 1 plate and iv + 104 +pages in Work-Bag, presumably 104 includes a title page and poss a preface? . But seems this copy the binder did not bind one plate and a few unnumbered pages from Work-Bag, presumably because they did not think them necessary or was a different edition?, but we cannot see any signs of being removed. Rare publisher too Joseph Graham 2 Jewry Street, Aldgate, London. To sum up this is a unique children's book, of 2 different titles, only located one copy of each title in World Cat. Size: 14.5 x 10.25cm Approx.
