A Comedy by Frances Sheridan. ESTC No.: N16641. First performed at Drury Lane in 1763, The Discovery is a comedy of courtship, secrecy, and misunderstanding. William Congreve (1670-1729) was one of the leading Restoration dramatists; Colley Cibber (1671-1757) was an actor-manager, playwright and Poet Laureate; and Frances Sheridan was an important 18th century novelist and playwright. An interesting sammelband of three late 18th century acting editions. Rebound in a modern brown cloth binding, endpapers renewed.Externally, very smart. Very slight rubbing to spine label. Slight shelf lean. Previous owner's inscription to preliminary blank. Internally, firmly bound. Pages characteristically age toned with the odd light spot and handling mark to fore edge, more prominent to first and last few leaves.
