Just a touch of spine lightening, light shelf wear; quaint bookseller's small label on rear pastedown for the collector of those, this one being "Newbegin's / 358 Post Street / Opposite Union Square / San Francisco" as a small oval. Near fine, quite sharp. Tissue guards at frontis and elsewhere still quite pristine. Extremely scarce Scribner's first American edition, in superior condition, of the noted work by the era's leading historian of silhouettes, or "scissortype", as these were first known in England. Includes a dictionary of silhouette artists in the back. Color plates are exceptional for the time and method. See scans. - LG13. Plates, Photographs (illustrator).
