Jane Ellen Panton (1847-1923) was an English author who wrote mainly on domestic management but also some works of fiction. In this volume she gives guidance to young householders on how to furnish each room of the house, as well as tips for managing servants, keeping a tidy house, and entertaining friends. It is a charming work offering an insight into Victorian interior design and housekeeping. In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Externally very smart; colour and gilt remain bright, though there are some faint marks to the boards. Front hinge is starting, but remains reasonably firm. Slightly strained to pages 80 and 81; otherwise firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean except for some offsetting to the free end papers. Very Good. Not Stated (illustrator). book.
