All edges gilt. Reprinted from the 1929 edition. The Monmouth Rebellion of 1685 against the English crown resulted in swift trials (many show-trials) and numerous executions by hangings, beheadings and even burning alive at the stake. The trials were overseen by Judge Jeffreys (the "hanging judge") who travelled through southwest England where the uprising against the crown was most active.
