Etching with engraving, scratched letter proof, fine impression. 290 by 230mm. Trimmed to printed border, losing part of the engraver's signature and publication line. A few small chips to left edge. [London, Sherwin, Half-length portrait of William Dampier (1651-1715), explorer and pirate, holding a copy of his own account of his voyages.    The oil painting by Thomas Murray which this engraving is after was painted c.1697. It is currently held in the National Portrait Gallery in London. .

Condition: Good. Etching by an unknown artist after a painting by Thomas Murray. Hardman was reknowned for relieving people of corns on their feet, including William III. Image: 186 x 126 mm. Sheet: 306 x 251 mm. Pasted down. From a periodical of remarkable characters. Manuscript description in a contemporary hand on lower margin. From scrapbook compiled by noted 19th c. British collector T. Purland in 1845.

23 x 26.5cm, plus titles and strike line, [9" x 10"]., on full sheet 50.5x 66cm, [20" x 26"]., light sticker stain on the upper left margin, a few small light dust marks on the bottom right margin, very good to fine, rare. No records located. - Subjects also included Montreal, city view, children, carriages and cards, buildings, city scape, street scape. [Reg Russell's "Book Nook" not included]. Locations: McCord Museum; Baldwin Room, TPL; Spendlove. Face of Early Canada, Tor. 1958. p66. "John Murray Prints of Montreal". A very charming set of four black and white line-engravings of Monteal, often coloured by hand, was drawn by John Murray and engraved and published by Adolphus Bourne in 1850. . They are less rare and costly than the engravings after Sproule but are desirable and rapidly becoming scarce.
