A descriptive catalogue of a remarkable collection formed by Francis Cole, who was for 30 years Professor of Zoology at Reading and founded its Museum of Comparative Anatomy. Among the highlights of the collection are two incunabula, and early editions of the writings of Galen, Vesalius, Harvey, Willis, Leeuwenhoek, Malpighi and others. There are also long runs of early scientific periodicals, and many rare items. This Part 1 of the catalogue is arranged chronologically and provides pagination and number of plates, with information on engravers, portraits and other illustrations. A list of general biographical works and of individual biographies, and subject and author indexes are included. Engraved book plates, signatures and inscriptions are noted. [ Part 2, which is almost entirely devoted to zoology, is arranged alphabetically by author.] Covers a little rubbed and spine-ends slightly bumped, otherwise Very Good.
