Dated September 1944 to the title page, with later printed label affixed to its verso stating "This volume was produced and printed for official purposes during the war 1939/45". xviii,…682pp + 236 b/w illustrations (predominantly photos) on glossy paper, 97 text figures and maps of which 11 folding, 1 colour folding map of Iraq Arabia and Persia (bound in), and 1 folding Communications of Iraq map in the back pocket as called for. Ex-University of Bristol Geography Department copy with minimal markings including a small label to the spine tail, smart bookplate, and small stamps to endpapers and title page including "Withdrawn" stamps. Covers otherwise very good, faded to the spine with small tear to spine tail. Interiors mostly near fine with maps neatly folded. One of the folding maps (facing p435) has come loose and is laid in. Prepared by Naval Intelligence Division staff with Forewords by two of its Directors J.H. Godfrey and E.G.N. Rushbrooke. An impressively rich and wide ranging survey, sections cover an Introduction; geology and terrain; a detailed description of the Arabian and Persian coasts; climate, vegetation and fauna; history; people; distribution of people, administration and public life; health; irrigation, agriculture and minor industry; currency, finance, commerce and oil; ports and inland towns; and communications, with appendices and index.
