Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - Since the introduction of the total variation theory into mathematics in 1881 by Camille Jordan, the theory has not sufficiently found its pride of place among other mathematical theories. This is because even though the total variation…criterion has been used regularly, especially in the theory of distributions and the Stieljes integral where a nice solution requires that the functions be of bounded variation, that is, have a finite total variation, the total variation functional itself has not been extensively applied to the solution of mathematical problems. This is in part because of the difficulty encountered in using the functional. In this book, I give a new derivation of the functional and apply it to image edge detection and image quality measurement. Compared to previous methods, the total variation approach gives superior results.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - This is not just another book by the first author like his earlier 37 texts, research monographs, Mathematics Dictionary in five volumes, etc. rather it contains his selected researches published in the last decade (2016-26). It contains… 14 chapters, each depicting his separate research work and is diverse in nature. Although, at times, some of which may be referred to in their list of References, but each chapter is self-contained and can be read independently. Sometimes, minor editing in the original text of research works is done, if any fallacy was noticed in the original work. Moreover, the presentation format in the form of Sections etc., more precisely in numbering them, is changed in order to maintain uniformity not dispensing with the originality of the research work. The content matter in each chapter is usually presented in the form of Section, Theorem etc. numbered in decimal pattern. For instance, Theorem 2.1 refers to the first Theorem in Section 2 of the concerned work. The references are numbered and indicated within square brackets with an exception for the long list of References in Chapter 3 - avoiding unnecessary exercise. A solitary figure is dropped in Chapter 13 ( 5) as it proved challenging to extract it from the pdf version of the concerned research work. Every effort is made and a thorough care is taken in maintaining the compilation free from any typographical errors. Six additional collections of the first author are appended in the end followed by an alphabetical index for the easy reference.
