Prevale nel Kaden l'interesse per gli aspetti climatici, ma un'attenzione particolare è dedicata alle notizie storiche e di carattere botanico, che vengono intercalate da citazioni letterarie, digressioni nel campo del dialetto e del folklore. Un'opera rivolta dunque a un pubblico colto e preparato. Ma il fascino del libro lo ritroviamo. nelle numerose incisioni tratte da disegni del Nestel. . Forse l'ultima e più completa documentazione di una mitica Riviera, percorsa dagli occhi inteneriti di un artista tedesco disceso dal Nord" (Astengo-Duretto-Quaini, La scoperta della Riviera, pp. 108-9).
