Nel 1805 ando' a Parigi a studiare veterinaria. Tornato in Italia, insegno' la materia a Roma. Tuttavia 'poco inclinato a tali dottrine, invece sperimentando piu' forte la primitiva tendenza verso le matematiche, lascio' la cattedra di veterinaria a Metaxa' e nuovamente si fece maestro delle scienze esatte. Ma invece delle matematiche elementari prese a insegnar meccanica e idraulica. Dopo qualche anno istituita la cattedra di calcolo sublime, il prof. Oddi fu il primo ad occuparla.'
