E ciò vale sia per le fonti locali (tavolette minoiche e micenee), sia per quelle straniere (Egitto, Anatolia, Siria e Mesopotamia). La trattazione dei miti greci che ci conservano notizie interessanti, ma difficili da adattare alla storia, richiede conoscenze e metodologie particolari e complesse e non è nostro compito trattarne in questa sede. - Zusammenfassung. In zwei älteren Beiträgen (1964; 1995) hatte der Verf. die Beweise für die immer wieder angenommene und bis dahin nie bewiesene linguistische und faktische Gleichung der 'Achaioí mit dem aus den hethitischen Urkunden bekanntgewordenen Begriffen Ahhiya bzw. Ahhiyawa erfolgreich dargebracht und diese Namen aufgrund von lokalen, sprachlichen Entwicklungen mit dem alten indogermanischen Terminus für Wasser, *dkw-a- verbunden. Dabei war ihm gelungen, den Namen des ägäischen Meeres, Áigaion, mit der Bedeutung Meer der Inseln aus dem gleichen Terminus abzuleiten. Das entspricht aber fast genau der ägyptischen Bezeichnung für die Ägäis, iww hryw-ib nw W3d-wr die Inseln mitten im Großen Grünen, die praktisch wie eine Übersetzung aus dem Griechischen aussieht. Im vorliegenden Aufsatz untersucht der Verf. weiter die sogenannte ägäische Liste von Toponyma des Amenofis III (Kom el-Hetan). Dabei macht er einige weitere Deutungsvorschläge, indem er noch die Namen Tj n3 jj w = Áthínai und DS qS jS s = Thíbai zum ersten Mal vergleicht.
