Juni 1866 in Bischofszell (Thurgau) geboren, legte sein Medizinstudium in Zürich zurück, wo er 1802 promoviert wurde. Er war dann Assistent an der Horner Frauenklinik (P. Müller) und am Soho-Square Hospital for Women in London, habilitierte sich 1896 für Geburtshilfe und Gynäkologie in Genf, wo er 1907 als Nachfolger von Jentzer die Lehrkanzel des Faches übernahm. Bezttner betätigte sich wissenschaftlich auf allen Gebieten des Faches und förderte insbes. die gynäkologische Operationstechnik. Von seinen zahlreichen Schriften seien hervorgehoben: "Die transversale fundale Keilexzision des Uterus ete." Stuttgart 1911, "Technik der peritonealen Wundbehandlung des weiblichen Beckens'', Zürich 1918, (mit Chapuis) "La Curiethérapie du cancer du col de l'utérus", Genève 1921, "Technique opératoire des kystes ovariques intraligamentaires", Paris 1925, "A propos du traitement par le radium des cancers de l'utérus", Bruxelles 1926. Seit 1900 gab er die "Gynaecologia Helvetica" heraus, für das Handbuch der Frauenheilkunde von Menge und Opitz (Wiesbaden 1913) schrieb er das Kapitel "Harnorgane". Beuttner starb am 3.
