So reichhaltig auch die Literatur über Schiller bis jetzt ist, so fehlt es doch noch an einer zusammenhängenden Darstellung der Beziehungen, in denen Schiller zu dem Herzog Karl August von Weimar stand. Allerdings steht hier der Stoff nicht so reichhaltig zu Gebote wie für Goethes Verhältnis zu seinem fürstlichen Freunde, das darum auch schon seinen Bearbeiter gefunden hat, aber trotzdem haben wir in der Literatur der in Frage kommenden Zeit, namentlich in der brieflichen, Anhaltspunkte genug, um uns auch über Schillers Verhältnis zu Karl August ein Urteil bilden zu können. Auch als Vorarbeit zu der noch zu schreibenden Biographie des Herzogs würde eine Darstellung dieses Verhältnisses einen Beitrag liefern.
