Professionally matted, glazed, and framed to approximately 14" x 16¾", the photo held in place with clear photo corners. Unexamined out of frame but the photo appears near fine with light wear. The frame is fine. Inscribed by saxophonist Otto Hardwick (pictured on the left): "To Dick Gabel A.M.N. Best wishes, Toby Otto Von Hardwick." Hardwick was a childhood friend and longtime bandmate of Ellington's. …

In good condition, lightly aged, with thin strip of paper from mount adhering to blank reverse of second leaf, one corner of which has been slightly damaged by the opening of the wafer. Folded twice. The letter begins: 'Mme. Goldschmidt presents her best Compliments to Lady Cullum and begs to express her sincere thanks for the most beautiful flowers she received this morning from Lady Cullum and which certainly do "enliven" her drawing room at the Hotel'. As the weather was 'so unfavorable' she was not able to visit Hardwick that afternoon, in order to thank Lady Cullum in person. In the 1850s Lind settled in England with her husband the German composer Otto Goldschmidt (1829-1907).…
