Zbl. Chir., 35/ 1. - Leipzig, Verlag von Johann Ambrosius Barth, 1908, 8°, pp.1-32, feine Broschur. First Edition. - "The still customary mesh-grafting technique". "Optimal drainage was undoubtedly ensured by the technique proposed by Otto Lanz (1865-1935). Lanz had long regretted the fact that, after Thiersch skin grafting, the grafted wound often healed before the donor site did! He therefore tried to develop a method in which not only the skin defect was given a graft, but the donor site as well. He found an ingenious solution when he recalled a children's game: the making of an "accordion" by making short parrallel cuts in paper. He had a die designed with which short parrallel cuts could be made in a graft, which could then be stretched to obtain a larger surface area. Half of this graft was applied to the wound, while the other half was used to cover the donor site. Lanz thought that this method could also be used for grafts of larger wounds, when insufficient skin was available for graft material." H.J. Klasen, History of Free Skin Grafting, pp.113-114; J.Gabka & E.Vaubel, Plastic Surgery, Past and Present, p.8,12. Frank McDowell, Sorce books of plastic surgery, pp.21-22.
