The quarter includes 343 one-family houses on a triangular site, as we…ll as eight shops and a small fire-station, grouped along an oblong pentagonal square. Originally this garden-city was build for a duration of twenty-five years, but the Rotterdam people became so attached to their 'Witte Dorp' (white village) that it was renovated in the seventies. Despite the use of traditional materials and forms, such as wooden windowframes and sloping roofs, which were forced upon Oud by municipal building regulations, a surprisingly modern quarter has been realized.
