Brossura. Condition: new. A cura di Spaggiari W. Milano, 2012; br., pp. 74, cm 15,5x22. (Palinsesti). See his entry in the Oxford DNB. Now viewed in a favourable light, Panizzi was a controversial figure in his own time, being dubbed a 'fat pedant' by Thomas Carlyle, who was moved to press for the creation of the London Library as a result of the Italian's high-handed behaviour. On 7 x 4 cm piece of grey paper, presumably cut from an album. No othe writing on the slip other than Panizzi's compact and disciplined signature 'A Panizzi.' In good condition, lightly aged, Strips of sunning at top and right edge, but nowhere near the signature. See scan.…

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book, originally written in 1823, provides the first-hand account of a young lawyer who witnessed the political climate of the Duchy of Modena in the years following the fall of Napoleon. The Duchy, having fallen back under the rule of the Este family, saw a sharp decline in the civil liberties that the people had enjoyed under Napoleon's rule. Using real case studies and examples, the author provides insight into the judicial processes and political machinations of the time, as well as the ways in which the civil liberties of the Modenese were steadily eroded. The decline from enlightened Napoleonic rule into the absolutism of the Este family is examined through the lens of the author's legal and political experiences, revealing a dark and dangerous slide toward autocracy. Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a unique look at the rich history and evolution of romantic narrative poetry of the Italians. It examines the origins of medieval romance and the role of knights, chivalry, and courtly love in shaping its themes and conventions. The author traces the development of this genre from its roots in folktales, legends, and oral traditions to its sophisticated literary forms in the works of poets such as Boiardo and Ariosto. Through a close analysis of key texts, the book explores the complex interplay between history, myth, and imagination in the creation of these epic tales of love, adventure, and heroism.
