A VG+ clean copy. Samuel Griswold Goodrich (1793 1860) was an American author. Goodrich, using the pseudonym Peter Parley, wrote children's books with an informal and friendly style as he introduced his young readers to faraway people and places. Goodrich believed that fairy tales and fantasy were not useful and possibly dangerous to children. He entertained them instead with engaging tales from history and geography. His low regard for fiction is ironic in that his accounts of other places and cultures were often misleading and stereotypical, if not completely incorrect.

George Mogridge (1787-1854) aka "Old Humphrey" et al, was an English writer of religious and juvenile literature who wrote under many pseudonyms. He audaciously appropriated the pseudonym Peter Parley, which did not endear him to Samuel Griswold Goodrich (1793-1860), the American author who established the pseudonym and wrote many (but not all) Parley books to critical acclaim and popular success. That Mogridge is the author is clear by the many references in the text and idioms that are thoroughly British. OCLC notes only five copies in institutional holdings. A Very Good copy. Quite rare. From the collection of Martin Stone.
