Lacking spine label, hinges split, extremities rubbed, owner's name on front pastedown. The book consists of a miscellany of short pieces. Those lettered "B" have been attributed to Robert Barnard, the editor also refers to passages lettered "J.M" as being original contributions by "an author the public well knows how to appreciate". This is probably James Montgomery. Binding is hardcover.

With a sixteen-page subscribers list, almost entirely Kentish, but without the two terminal leaves of publisher s advertisements; title-leaf slightly ragged around the edges, some browning. Attractively bound in twentieth-century half olive morocco, spine gilt, t.e.g.; spine a little faded. First and only edition, with the "original" contributions indicated by asterisks, the vast majority of which are given to "E.W.", i.e. Edward Wilkinson. The book is intended as a "Means of exalting and refining the Notions and Conceptions of the younger Part of the World," and to help the kind of love "regulated solely by its brutish Desires." The original compositions are mostly in the poetical sections, and include several panegyrics on young ladies of various towns in Kent. Another poem, by the compiler s friend "W.P." is titled "On a remarkable Company and Journey of Pleasure to the Sea Houses at Bourn in Sussex, July 1st, 1749." It was a young group: All yet unbound with matrimonial ties, Tho some appear d soft Hymen s votaries; The youngest had full twenty years survey d, But not till thirty had the eldest stay d, On pleasing themes our chat went briskly round; With various liquors was our table crown d. . . .

By T.B. Dr. in Divinitie. Whereunto is added by the same author a short treatise wherein Episcopacy its proved to be Jure Divino. The Royal Charter is part of the âEarly English Booksâ period. (illustrator). A fragile little volume, measuring 6" x 4" with a leather spine and brown leather boards ruled in gold and with a capital "E" in gold on the front boards. With 144 pages (FINIS). Some chipping to the edges of the endpapers and one tiny chip to the edges of the title page. Paper browned with the patina of time. The hinges have been reinforced with light brown tape. With a tiny armorial bookplate on the front paste-down. A scarce volume. First Edition: 1649 date on the title page.

Very Good condition book in Very Good condition dust wrapper with rubbing across the spine ends and upper corners, not price clipped, 16s. Dust wrapper supplied in archive acetate film protection. I believe the picture of mine you have dates from the 1940's when I was at the address you mention. In an exhibition I had at Gallery 20 d'Artlay Street, W1 in 1957, the catalogue mentions a title, L'Eau de L'Eau, but this is a typescript it may not be accurate' + 19 further hand written lines, ending 'With all good wishes to your projects SIGNED (unusually for her at this time in her life) in full 'Ithell Colquhoun' ''. + 6 pp listing titled 'Recent Exhibitions' again from her private residence in Stone Cross Cottage, Green Lane, Paul, Penzance, Cornwall beginning with 'Newlyn Art Gallery September - October 1967; Czechoslovakia 1967 - 1968; West Berlin 1968, with her hand written corrections, ending after 5 pp with Palazzo Reale, Milan in 1980 followed by 2 pp hand written places and dates in 'Public Collections'. With an appendix giving fish and game laws, and official lists of trout and salmon rivers and their lessers. Part II focusing on Western Canada, including the peninsular and northern regions of Ontario, the Canadian shores of the Great Lakes, the lake of the woods region, Manitoba and the 'Great Northwest,' the Canadian Rocky Mountains and National Park, British Columbia and Vancouver's Island.
