This paper contributed to the demonstration of the close connection between quantum fields and quantum statistics. It was known that second quantization guarantees that photons obey Bose-Einstein statistics; but what of other particles which obey Bose-Einstein statistics? Jordan and Klein showed that second quantization is not confined to free particles only. One can quantize just as well the non-relativistic Shrodinger equation. Max Born's paper would he first to clearly enunciate the probabilistic interpretation of the quantum wavefunction, which had been introduced by Erwin Schrodinger. It would be criticize by Schrodinger but lead to Einstein's quote in a letter "He [God] does not play dice.
