Paperback. Condition: Acceptable/NO DUSTJACKET. Not Illustrated (illustrator). Mulhouse, France: RugĂ FrĂ res. Acceptable/NO DUSTJACKET. 1930. . Paperback. INSCRIBED BY AUTHOR PAUL DRUMM Poet, novelist and publicist (? Mulhouse 17.10.1876 â Richwiller 19.9.1960). Son of Daniel Drumm, cabinetmaker and woodcarver, and Ămilie Schill. He learned the trade of carpenter, became a furniture dealer, before devoting himself to literature. He was expelled in 1940 because of his Francophile attitude and had to spend the war in exile in Lot-et-Garonne. Returning to Alsace (1945), he settled in Richwiller. He became known as an editorialist for the Journal des MĂ nagĂ res de Mulhouse, through his poems and prose in dialect and High German. Self-taught, honest craftsman, concerned with a practical and optimistic morality, he succeeded in becoming, despite limited prospects, a skilled versifier and a novelist appreciated in the context of a regional literature of traditional, popular and sentimental inspiration. Member of the AcadĂ mie d'Alsace; founding member of the Ăcrivains anciens combattantes (Writers of Veterans). Several honorary distinctions rewarded his literary, journalistic and cultural activity: bronze medal (1930) and prize of excellence (1952) from the AcadĂ mie des jeux florimontains, gold medal of the French Renaissance (1951), silver medal of the French League of Social and Philanthropic Mutual Aid (1955), "Doctor of Poetry honoris causa" from the International Academy of Washington.
