Hardcover. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. First Edition First Printing. Written by the 19-year-old Eagle Scout who served as the official representative of the Boy Scouts of America on the very first Byrd Antarctic Expedition, which departed on the sailing ship City of New York in 1928 & didn't return until 1930. In 165 pages + ads for other Putnam Books for Boys in rear, with 33 black-&-white photos throughout text. Orig. published in Jan. 1931, this is the Third Impression (printing) of that FIRST EDITION from June of that same year. Hardcover has medium blue cloth-covered boards stamped in black lettering to front & spine, pictorial endpapers show an Arctic scene. Condition is Fair, downgraded due to exterior appearance, which shows heavy rubbing, fraying, loss at head of spine, soiling to outside edges of text block. The interior contents are clean & unmarked (save for old gift inscription & boy's name written many times to front endpapers), text block is solid, but frontispiece is coming detached. No DJ (missing). Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same day shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
