Illustrated with twenty plates and a folding map.Collated, complete. The work of English artist and photographer, Edward William Payton, known for his artistic depictions of New Zealand. Payton arrived in New Zealand fin 1883, travelling far and wide across the country, making sketches of the countryside and the local Maori people. 'Round About New Zealand' contains Payton's notes and sketches from the three years he spent wandering around the country, taken from the diary he kept. Bound in the publisher's original pictorial cloth. Externally, very good, with some bumping to the extremities and rubbing to the joints and extremities. A few small tears to the spine head and tail. Hinges are a touch strained, but holding firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with a few areas of light scattered spotting. Heavier spotting to folding map. Frontispiece is detached but present. Ink inscription to title page. Tear to tissue guard to p112, with a few of the tissue guards lacking. Very Good. book.
