Add to basketFirst edition thus, first impression, inscribed by the illustrator on the front free endpaper, "with very best wishes, from Mervyn Peake, April 1952". The inscription is shaky; during Peake's later years, he became increasingly incapacitated by what was eventually diagnosed as a form of Parkinson's disease. Small quarto. Double-page colour title page, 4 colour plates, 56 black and white illustrations in the text. Original yellow cloth, spine and front cover lettered and decorated in dark blue. With supplied dust jacket. Top of spine toned, front board gently marked and bowed, very light foxing to pages; dust jacket unclipped, spine sunned with short closed tear at foot, edges just lightly nicked, slightly rubbed: a very good copy in like jacket.
