Alois Materna (1876-1965), studierte an der Universität Graz Medizin und promovierte dort 1896. 1910 habilitierte er sich für das Fach "pathologische Anatomie" Leiter der neu eingerichteten Prosektur am Krankenhaus in Troppau und Leiter der dortigen Staatlichen Bakteriologisch-Serologischen Untersuchungsstelle. 1923 wurde er an der deutschen Universität in Prag außerordentlicher Professor und hielt dort, bi zu deren Schließung nach dem 2. Weltkrieg, Vorlesungen. Bis 1960 war er an der Prosektur im Landeskrankenhaus Troppau tätig.
