Eric Kincaid, Millicent E. Gray and Percy Tarrant (illustrator). Anne of Green Gables. Ware, Hertfordshire: Wordsworth Editions Limited, 2003. Illustrated hardcover deluxe edition with color plates by Eric Kincaid. Together with Alcott, Louisa May. Little Women. Ware, Hertfordshire: Wordsworth Editions Limited, 2003. Illustrated hardcover deluxe edition with color illustrations by Millicent E. Gray and Percy Tarrant. Matching decorative green faux-leather bindings with gilt spine and cover decoration, ribbon markers, and illustrated paper-covered boards housed in a matching slipcase-style presentation format. A handsome paired set of two beloved nineteenth-century classics issued by Wordsworth Editions in their illustrated gift-format series. These editions combine durable decorative bindings with numerous full-page color illustrations on heavy coated stock, designed to evoke the look of traditional Edwardian and early twentieth-century juvenile classics. Anne of Green Gables retains Eric Kincaid's vivid pastoral illustrations of Anne Shirley and Avonlea, while Little Women features reproductions after Millicent E. Gray and Percy Tarrant, emphasizing the domestic and sentimental atmosphere of the March family. The coordinated bindings and presentation make the set attractive both for display and for gift giving. Condition: Near Fine overall. Both volumes are clean, square, and tightly bound with bright gilt decoration and minimal shelfwear. Ribbon markers present. Interiors exceptionally clean with no ownership markings, underlining, or notable foxing observed. Slipcase/presentation housing likewise Near Fine with only light rubbing and minor handling wear. No dust jackets as issued. Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874-1942) was a Canadian novelist best known for the Anne Shirley series, beginning with Anne of Green Gables (1908), which became one of the most enduring works of children's literature in the English-speaking world. Louisa May Alcott (1832-1888) was an American novelist, abolitionist, and reformer whose Little Women (1868-69) drew heavily from her own family life and remains a cornerstone of American juvenile fiction.
