Potsdam verlor damit sein eigentliches Zentrum, Ausgangspunkt seines politischen wie kulturellen Aufstiegs, die in diesem Band erstmals veröffentlichten Photographien rufen Erinnerungen an eines der bedeutendsten Werke friderizianischen Rokokos wach. Autor: HansJoachim Giersberg, geboren 1938, studierte Kunstgeschichte, Geschichte und Völkerkunde und promovierte mit einer Arbeit "Zur Rolle Friedrichs II. von Preußen als Bauherr und Baumeister". Er war ab 1978 als Schlösserdirektor bei der Verwaltung in Sanssouci tätig, von 1991 bis 2001 wirkte er (bis März 1995 zunächst kommissarisch) als Generaldirektor der Stiftung Preußische Schlösser und Gärten BerlinBrandenburg. Hillert Ibbeken, geboren 1935, studierte Geologie und habilitierte sich 1968 an der FU Berlin, wo er 1970 Professor für Geologie wurde. Seit seiner Pensionierung 1997 widmet er sich der Architekturfotografie. Es entstanden zwei Bildbände, über die mittelalterlichen Dorfkirchen des Fläming und die noch stehenden Gebäude von Karl Friedrich Schinkel, sowie ein Architekturführer über Ludwig Persius. Dieses Buch ist ein gutes Nachschlagewerk für alle die Potsdam und vor allen deren Mitte lieben, und sich über den Wiederaufbau freuen. Die Fotos sind alle in s/w und der Text ist sehr ausführlich gehalten. Das Buch ist sehr empfehlenswert.
