Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. !stedn, Jan 1943 stated; 4to spiral bound, stiff card covers, Not ex-library copy. Soft cover in good condition, previous owner's name Stockwell B. Sears written in blue ink on the upper edge of the title page, penciled writing and markings pages 47-56 - rest of text appears to be clean. - the text is attached tightly to the plastic spirals.ow VG: 60pp, Page one is introduction; the rest of the single sided mimeographed pages are lines of four Chinese characters each exhibiting strict parallel grammatical structures; every fifth page is a review page of the cc introduced in previous fourpp; "The grammatical function of a chinese word? is determined. by the position in the sentence. In a language as deficient in morphological distinctions as chin, clarity of thought and intelligibility of syntactical relations are often dependent in the lucidity of word-order patterns?Parallelistic construction, as one of those patterns, is thus something more than a stylistic device widely used in chin lit. Parallelism must indeed be considered as an important chapter of chin syntax." ? "In each of the ten quotations illustrating the use of a character, the first word will be found to correspond in grammatical function to the third, and the second to the fourth, each sentence or phrase of four characters forming thus a 'syntactical proportion' of the a:b=a':b' type." Berkeley CA Dec 5, 1942. /ASSOCIATION:PO sign Stockwell B. Sears = The Union of Indonesian Baptist Churches (Indonesian: Gabungan Gereja Baptis Indonesia, abbreviated GGBI), also known as the Union of Indonesian Baptist Churches (UIBC), is a national Baptist denomination in Indonesia that unites over 600 autonomous local churches spanning from Sumatra to Papua, with 652 churches and 49,332 members as of 2023, focusing on evangelism, discipleship, and community service in fulfillment of the Great Commission. Baptist missionary activities in Indonesia began in earnest during the early 1950s, following the country's independence from Dutch colonial rule in 1945. Influenced by the closure of Baptist missions in China due to the communist takeover in 1948, Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) leaders redirected efforts to Indonesia, conducting surveys as early as January 1950. Three key SBC missionaries?William B. Johnson, Stockwell B. Sears, and Charles P. Cowherd?arrived on December 24, 1951, and obtained formal permission from the Indonesian Department of Religious Affairs to establish Baptist work on February 25, 1952. The first worship service was held on May 11, 1952, in Bandung, marking the inception of organized Baptist presence.
