It reveals how the ideals and obligations of two presidents were passed on to later generations, either ennobling them or crushing them. Filled with drama and anecdote, this is a soaring tale of triumph over heartbreak and frailty From WIkipedia: "Peter Anthony Dale Collier (born June 2, 1939) is a writer and publisher. He was the founding publisher of Encounter Books in California and held that position from 1998 until he resigned in 2005, when it moved from San Francisco to New York City, and Collier was replaced as publisher by Roger Kimball. He remains a consultant to the company. Collier has collaborated with David Horowitz on many projects over many decades, e.g., co-editor of Ramparts; publishing articles on Horowitz's FrontPageMagazinedotcom; co-author with Horowitz on several books (including The Anti-Chomsky Reader (2004)); and promoter of other Horowitz ventures like the Center for the Study of Popular Culture, which he co-founded with Horowitz. Collier was also a co-organizer of the Second Thoughts conferences for the ex-leftists who had moved to the right. He was born in Hollywood, California, and attended the University of California, receiving a BA in English in 1961. He did civil rights work in the South in 1964. He became literary editor of Ramparts Magazine in 1967 and was later editor of that magazine from 1968-1972 along with David Horowitz whom he had known at Berkeley in the late 50s. In 1968, he endorsed the Writers and Editors War Tax Protest pledge, vowing to refuse tax payments in protest against the Vietnam War. He taught Freshman English at the University of California (Berkeley) from 1964 69, and returned as a Lecturer in Creative Writing from 1978-81. He has contributed reviews to various publications. He is on the editorial board of World Affairs a quarterly international affairs journal. He is a fellow of the National Endowment of the Arts (1980) and lectured abroad for the United States Information Service in 1980, 1987, and 1998. Collier lives with his family in Nevada City, California." Also from Wikipedia: "David Joel Horowitz (born 10 January 1939) is an American conservative writer. He is a founder and current president of the conservative-leaning think tank the David Horowitz Freedom Center, editor of FrontPage Magazine, and director of Discover the Networks, a website that tracks left-wingers. Horowitz founded the organization Students for Academic Freedom, whose self-stated goal is combating what it calls the "leftist indoctrination" in academia. Horowitz was raised by parents who were members of the Communist Party USA. Between 1956 and 1975, Horowitz was an outspoken adherent of the New Left before rejecting leftism completely. Horowitz has recounted his ideological journey in a series of retrospectives, culminating with his 1996 memoir Radical Son: A Generational Odyssey.".
