The Duke of Sussex (1773-1843), sixth son of George III, formed a very large library with the assistance of the bibliographer Thomas Pettigrew. This most substantial catalogue describes only the theological portion of the library, which was assembled after 1815, when prices were high, and sold in 1844-5, when they were low. Sir Thomas Phillipps and the British Museum were the chief buyers. Volume one of the catalogue is devoted to the early printed Bibles and the manuscripts. Volume 2 comprises of the Bibles in modern languages. This first part of volume one describes the MSS in this notable collection.
