Sein Text versteht sich als Plädoyer für das nizänische Glaubensbekenntnis von 325 und als Streitschrift gegen die zweite theologische Formel von Sirmium, die die homöischen Gegner des Nizänums im Jahre 357 aufgestellt hatten. Phoebadius Contra Arianos ist deshalb von großem Interesse, weil hier eines der frühesten Beispiele für die Aufnahme und Interpretation des griechischen Nizänums im lateinischsprachigen Westen vorliegt, welches es uns ermöglicht, den Rezeptionsprozeß des Bekenntnisses von Nizäa authentisch mitzuverfolgen.
