Contemporary marbled paper boards with red leather spine and corners; mild shelf wear and a 2cm scrape to top front leather triangle. The spine, a little rubbed on front edge, is strong, square and well cased; Seven raised bands decorated in gilt with gilt filigrees in between; the second section down has lost the red leather label. Marbled text block edges set flat and true. Internally marbled endpapers; the front gutter broken the reverse of the front one bearing a note from past bookseller (this fine clean copy 18/-)! Next two blank pages foxed, followed by complete but darkened (pickwickian) frontis. Offsetting to title page. All the remaining pages clean though lightly browned at edges. Most of the 24 plates darkened as if by some natural ageing process. Pages iv. 375, (1). Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
