A series of innovative ornamental bed designs including lace and embroidery patterns by the influential French rococo architect, sculptor and designer, Nicolas Pineau (1684-1754), a pupil of Mansart and Boffrand who worked in St Petersburg until 1728. The plates are engraved by [Jean] Mariette (1660-1742), print dealer and publisher. The images are explained in detail, marked A. B. C. in margins : 'Courtepointe' (quilt) ; 'Subassement' (foundation). 'Pante' (bed skirting)'; ' 'Imperiale' (canopy); ' Petitte pante en dedans' (inner skirting); 'Grande pante en dehors' (outer skirting)' ; 'Chantourné' (fretwork panel in front part of bed).
