Damit ergänzt die Arbeit ihren literaturwissenschaftlichen Schwerpunkt durch eine kulturgeschichtliche Dimension. Eine Vermittlerrolle spielt hierbei die Psychoanalyse, welche die Autorin als großes 'Epos der Psyche' fasst und in Verbindung zu den klassischen Vertretern des epischen Kanons - Homer, Vergil und Dante - setzt. Den Fluchtpunkt der narratologischen Perspektive stellt James Joyces Ulysses dar, ein epischer Text, der anhand des Motivs der Unterweltreise die Strategien des Erzählens vorführt und auch über dessen Grenzen hinausweist.
