Reliure d'époque en demi-basane racinée (dos lisse ornés de filets dorés et de pièces de basane rouge rectangulaire pour le titre et noire ovale pour la tomaison entourées de dorures, quelques traces de frottement, tranches jaunes mouchetées, manques de cuir sur la coiffe du T.IV et au milieu du mors arrière du T.II, délitement du papier des plats, intérieur très frais avec quelques rousseurs éparses). Série collationnée et bien complète. Bon état. Format 13,8 x 21 cm. Poids 4,050 kg. Le Conservateur fut fondé par dix personnalités: Bruges, Talaru, Polignac, Vitrolles, Mathieu de Montmorency, Fiévée, Villèle, Castelbajac, Trouvé et Lamennais. Si Chateaubriand ne fit pas partie des fondateurs, contrairement à la légende, il fut, par contre, la figure de proue du Conservateur et son nom restera définitivement lié à sa publication qui va d'octobre 1818 à mars 1820, après la chute de Decazes et le rétablissement de la censure. "D'octobre 1818 à mars 1820 Chateaubriand devient journaliste politique dans le Conservateur, revue hebdomadaire ultraroyaliste, où il fait figure de proue et fournit plus d'une cinquantaine d'articles. Quelquefois commentant la politique au jour le jour, à d'autres moments tacticien électoral, à d'autres encore exploitant sa réputation de docteur-ès-sciences constitutionnelles dans des articles de fond, il ne cesse de varier le ton. C'est surtout un grand homme d'opposition, critiquant, parfois avec une ironie cinglante, la conduite du gouvernement dominé par Decazes. On y voit un homme d'État en formation tâchant de rassembler et d'encourager les royalistes de la Restauration à tenir bon.
