Z : 208 Seiten, 23 x 28 cm - Marsden Hartley ist im Gegensatz zu den USA in Deutschland beinahe unbekannt und als furioser Maler der Moderne erst noch zu entdecken. Er lebte 1913-1915 in Berlin, wo es ihm gelang, eine eigenständige malerische Ausdrucksweise zu entwickeln, die sich auf der Höhe der damaligen Avantgardekunst befand. Seine Bilder dieser Zeit explodieren regelrecht in leuchtenden Farben, die kontrastreich nebeneinander gesetzt sind. Thematisch steht der Erste Weltkrieg im Zentrum. Flaggen, Standarten und militärische Insignien wie das Eiserne Kreuz tauchen immer wieder als Motive auf. Erstmals werden fast alle Berliner Bilder in diesem Katalog publiziert, flankiert von früheren und späteren Werken.
