Muy buen estado general. «Las teorías de Popper en el campo de la sociología… han sido lo suficientemente significativas como para levantar una polémica con la escuela de Frankfurt. Popper es uno de los más claros exponentes de un "socialismo científico" basado en ese concepto de ciencia que hoy resulta tan debatido. Marcuse, por el contrario, conecta con la interpretación marxista de la escuela de Frankfurt y adopta, lógicamente, una postura crítica ante la sociedad que exige un aparato conceptual "interpretativo" que desborda las limitaciones positivistas de la sociología de Popper. El debate entre ambos podría quedar resumido en la oposición entre la sociología del gran cambio (Marcuse y la Escuela de Frankfurt) y la "ingeniería social" de Popper. Horkheimer provocó un gran revuelo a finales de los años sesenta con sus polémicas reflexiones en torno a la "añoranza de lo completamente distinto". Se hablaba -empleando un término suyo- de "la confesión de un hereje en el lecho de muerte", del paso del optimismo revolucionario al pesimismo. En este volumen Hermut Gumnior recoge distintas conversaciones sostenidas con Horkheimer con motivo de su 75 aniversario.».
