Due volumi in legatura coeva in mezza pelle con angoli, titoli e filetti dorati sul dorso, in ottavo cm 20.5 x 13, pp VIII 406, (4) 590. Firme di proprietà, lievi segni d'uso e tracce di etichetta sulle legature, qualche sparso arrossamento. Diario del viaggio nei Caraibi del Barone di Montlezun, e suo primo resoconto dall'America Settentrionale: il barone proseguì le proprie peregrinazioni nordamericane descrivendole in un secondo lavoro, dedicato interamente agli Stati Uniti. Dopo la narrazione della traversata l'opera si apre con una descrizione di Philadelphia organizzata alfabeticamente (Académie, Américains, Amour-propre national, Auberges ? fino a Temples protestant e Venus africaine) nel quale l'autore alterna informazioni pratiche, considerazioni socio-politiche, aneddoti e incontri curiosi. Il racconto procede con la descrizione di New York e di un viaggio a New Brunswick su steam boat. L'autore prosegue illustrando varie isole e traversate nelle Antille e Isole Vergini, dilungandosi in particolare su località di Martinica, Trinidad e Guadalupe; una nota è dedicata alla battaglia delle Saintes del 1782. A Guadalupe il Barone registra notizie della rivolta di Bussa a Barbados. B. is anxious to have the Petition returned to him by his servant as it will be necessary that it should be presented this day | 3 Park Place | June 12th.' Docketed with year and date of reply on reverse of second leaf, which also has the two newspaper cutting tipped in onto it. The first carries an entry on the family of 'LUCAN, EARL OF. (BINGHAM)', ending 'RICHARD, PRESENT AND SECOND EARL.' The other cutting, ffrom the Illustrated London News, is a biographical article headed 'MAJOR-GENERAL THE EARLOF LUCAN' and begins: 'IN this week's number of the ILLUSTRATED LONDON NEWS we present our readers with an admirable Portrait of Major-General the Earl of Lucan, appointed to command the cavalry division now in course of embarkation for the seat of war.'.
