Citing a lecture to the RGS by Iraq Petroleum Company and Anglo Iranian Oil Company Director John Cadman, Boesch hopes this work will support the oil industry's efforts to promote western style development in the MIddle East. Boesch had worked as a field geologist for IPC in 1937-38, which had built its oil pipeline from Kirkuk to Haifa and Tripoli. The IPC's Chief Geologist, N. Baker, gave Boesch complete climate data for the pipeline's 12 pumping stations. With support from the University of Zurich, he analysed this during breaks from military service. Here he presents the data for the first time, including for areas occupied by the nomadic Anaze and Shammar Bedouin, which had hitherto been scant. His work covers basic observations (the pipeline's course, pumping stations, the meteorological service and observations, necessary improvements); Climate data; Climatogenetic analysis; and Climatic zones (the high mountains, Mediterranean, Mesopotamia, Persian Gulf, and desert steppe). Tables report observations at each station. The plates show climate zones, and a map of the pipeline's route and its stations.
