Franz Ignaz Pruner (1808-1882) was a German physician and anthropologist who was appointed by Mehmed Ali to the chair of anatomy and physiology at the Cairo medical school. In 1839 he became physician to the Egyptian royal family and in 1865 became president of the Societe d'anthropologie in Paris. Side-stiched in the publisher's light blue wrappers (now chipped) with a dedication to M. Duhousset on the upper wrapper. A very nice signed copy of the first edition in the publisher's wrappers. Lettera di due pagine e un quinto, dove si fa richiesta di intercedere presso il Prof. carina di procurare un libro dove si parla delle famiglie lucchesi stabilite a Ginevra. -(Franz Ignaz Pruner (8 marzo 1808-29 settembre 1882); conosciuto come Pruner Bey durante il suo soggiorno in Egitto, era un medico, oculista e antropologo tedesco originario di Pfreimd , Oberpfalz. Studiò medicina a Monaco e nel 1831 prese parte a una spedizione scientifica in Egitto.Mentre era in Egitto fu nominato dal viceré Mehmed Ali (1769-1849) a cattedra di anatomia e fisiologia presso la scuola di medicina di Abuzabel, vicino al Cairo . Questa istituzione era stata fondata di recente nel 1825 dal medico francese Antoine Clot (1793-1868). Nel 1832 tornò in Europa e studiò con Francesco Flarer (17911859) a Pavia . Subito dopo è tornato al Cairo come direttore di un ospedale militare. Successivamente, è stato professore di oftalmologia nonché direttore dell'ospedale di Kasr al Aini . Nel 1839 divenne medico della famiglia reale egiziana e gli fu dato il titolo di bey. Nel 1860 tornò in Europa, stabilendosi infine a Parigi, dove svolse ricerche antropologiche. Dopo lo scoppio della guerra franco-prussiana , si trasferì a Pisa , dove lavorò come studioso privato fino alla sua morte nel 1882.
