Mehr als 150 Verdachtige wurden diskutiert, doch die Identitat des Morders, der 1888 funf Prostituierte in London brutal ermordete, bleibt ein Ratsel. Hendrik Pustow und Thomas Schachner analysieren die Geschehnisse von 1888 detailliert, basierend auf zeitgenossischen Zeitungsartikeln und vollstandigen Polizeiakten der Londoner Polizei. Sie werteten auch bisher unzugangliches Material und zahlreiche spatere Presseberichte aus. Besonders bemerkenswert ist ihre neue Analyse des sogenannten ,Dear Boss"-Briefes, der im September 1888 an eine Londoner Presseagentur geschickt wurde und falschlicherweise oft als authentische Botschaft des Morders angesehen wird. In diesem Brief wurde der Name ,Jack the Ripper" erstmals erwahnt. Die Autoren prasentieren die erste objektive Rekonstruktion der Mordserie in deutscher Sprache, die die Hauptverdachtigen vorstellt und die Argumente fur und gegen sie abwagt. Der spritzige Stil der beiden Ripperologen macht das Buch fesselnd und ladt den Leser ein, selbst zu entscheiden, bei welchem Verdachtigen die Beweise am uberzeugendsten sind.
