Pictorial Cover. Condition: Very Good. This history of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is a collection of articles reflecting the privations of the first settlers in their covered wagons, the gay parties of the social set in leg-o-mutton sleeves and hoop skirts of the 90's, the stage coaches that overturned, the early steamboats, the struggle to get the first railroad, the Cherry Sisters who stormed Broadway--the ups and downs and ins and outs of a village growing from a cluster of cabins on a river bank in the wilderness to the progressive, challenging cultural city that it is today. The book contains photographs, illustrations, bibliography, and an index. This copy is SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR, inscribed on the FFEP, and is clean and solid. Signed by Author(s).

Developed by the author after years of research, these methods are designed to both maximize yield, reduce labor requirements, and preserve the viability of trees for other uses such as timber. The text covers every aspect of the process, including face width and installation, extraction techniques, and acid treatment. It also discusses the impact of turpentining on tree growth and explores the control of pests that can attack compromised trees. By integrating these techniques into their management plans, landowners and timber producers can increase the value of their pine forests and sustainably harvest a valuable natural resource. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Wraps. Condition: Good. Geoffrey H. Clements (Art Photography) (illustrator). Special Issue (Number 8). Format is approximately 11.25 inches by 11.25 inches. Unpaginated (60 pages plus covers). Illustrations. Avant Garde was a magazine notable for graphic and logogram design by Herb Lubalin. The magazine had 14 issues and was published from January 1968 to July 1971. The magazine was based in New York City. From January 1968 through July 1971, Ginzburg published Avant Garde. It was filled with creative imagery often critical of American society and government, sexual themes, and crude language. Avant Garde had a modest circulation but was extremely popular in certain circles, including New York's advertising and editorial art directors. Herbert F. Lubalin (1918-1981), a post-modern design guru, was Ginzburg's collaborator on his four best-known magazines, including Avant Garde, which gave birth to a well-known typeface of the same name. This issue of Avant-Garde is devoted entirely to one subject: a series of erotic gravures, or engravings, by Pablo Picasso, the pre-eminent artist of our time. They were intended to stand, as Picasso himself has said, 'As an abiding celebration of life itself.'. Avant Garde devoted this entire sixty page issue to the most significant of the 347 erotic engravings Picasso created in the previous year. Signed copies of the engravings were expected to be limited to 50 each.
